Information handled by the extension

After the user accepts the in-extension disclosure and enables recording, Source Memory stores page URLs, page titles, domains, timestamps, supported search queries visible in a page URL, tab and window identifiers, opener relationships, same-tab navigation, redirects, active-tab sequence, tab groups, and page-closing timestamps.

The extension also stores user-created smart bookmark titles, native Chrome bookmark identifiers, tags, projects, Threads, Trails, intent, status, notes, window labels, archives, and export or import metadata.

Declared agent control

When the user manually assigns a browser window to an agent, Source Memory stores the chosen agent name, task description, start and end time, window association, control-session identifier, and event attribution. This is a user declaration; it does not prove which physical input occurred.

Explicitly selected text

If the user invokes the Save selection with Source Memory context-menu action, the selected text is stored in the linked Source Record. Source Memory does not otherwise inject a content script to copy every page body.

Purpose

The information is used only for Source Memory functions: browser timeline, smart bookmarks, Came From and From Here relationships, Threads and Trails, local search, restoration, daily organization, retention and deletion controls, exports, and declared human or agent attribution.

Storage and transmission

Settings and live runtime state are stored with Chrome extension storage. Visits, relationships, Source Records, Trails, control sessions, events, and archives are stored in a local IndexedDB database associated with the extension and Chrome profile.

Version 1.0.1 contains no account system, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, cloud sync, managed AI service, telemetry endpoint, or remote executable code. The extension does not transmit the provenance ledger to the publisher.

Native Chrome bookmarks and Chrome Sync

When a Source Record is saved, Source Memory creates or updates a normal Chrome bookmark. If the user enables Chrome bookmark sync, Google Chrome may sync that bookmark under the user’s Chrome and Google settings and terms. Source Memory does not control Chrome Sync. The richer provenance ledger does not sync in version 1.0.1.

Sharing, selling, and advertising

Source Memory does not sell browsing data, use it to build an advertising profile, use it for creditworthiness or lending, or transfer it for unrelated purposes. No browsing ledger is shared with an AI model or third-party analytics provider in version 1.0.1.

User controls and retention

Users can pause or resume recording; exclude exact domains and subdomains; edit or delete individual Source Records; delete a recorded day; delete all Source Memory data; optionally delete linked native bookmarks; set retention; export the ledger as JSON; and import a prior Source Memory JSON export.

The default local retention period for unsaved visits is 180 days. Users can change the period or run cleanup immediately. Saved Source Records and required context remain until the user deletes them or all Source Memory data.

Security and children

The extension uses Manifest V3, a self-only extension content security policy, local extension storage, and no remotely hosted executable code. Users should protect access to their Chrome profile and exported JSON backups. Incognito access is disabled.

Source Memory is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13.

Policy changes

Material changes will update this page, its effective date, and relevant Chrome Web Store disclosures. Cloud sync or external processing would require updated consent and disclosures before that processing is enabled.
